About UNFOLLOWED
UNFOLLOWED is a free, independent tool that answers one question: who do you follow on Instagram that doesn’t follow you back? It compares the Followers and Following lists from your own Instagram data export and sorts every account into mutual follows, accounts that don’t follow you back, and followers you don’t follow back.
Why we built it
Instagram doesn’t show who doesn’t follow you back, so many people turn to “unfollower” apps that ask for their Instagram password. Handing your login to a third party puts your account at risk and can go against Instagram’s rules. Instagram already lets everyone download their own followers and following lists, so we built a tool that only needs those files and never needs your login.
How it works
- You request Followers and following from Instagram’s Accounts Center and download the ZIP Instagram sends you.
- You add the ZIP to the checker. Your browser reads the followers and following files inside it, in JSON or HTML format, and compares the two lists.
- You get searchable, sortable lists with links to each profile, and you can export any list to a CSV file.
Everything happens on your device. The files are never uploaded to us or anyone else, and the results are gone when you close the page. UNFOLLOWED never asks for your username, password or any access to your account, and it can’t follow, unfollow or message anyone.
What it doesn’t do
UNFOLLOWED compares the lists in one export. It doesn’t monitor your account, keep a history or send alerts, so it can’t say exactly when someone unfollowed you. Our guide to finding unfollowers with two exports explains how to do that yourself with a spreadsheet.

We write them from hands-on use of Instagram’s export and the checker, check the steps against the Instagram Help Center, list our sources at the end of each guide, and update them when Instagram changes its menus.
How the site is funded
UNFOLLOWED is free to use and is supported by ads served by Google AdSense. Ads never have access to your Instagram files or results. Read the Privacy Policy for how ads and analytics use cookies, and the Terms of Use for the rules of using the site.
